Firstly as a bit of an update from my previous post, I’m afraid things did not go as I’d hoped with regards to my planned exercise programming. Life managed to get in the way as it so often does. It’s at these times that you need to remain focused, remember what your goals/aims are and reset. I realised that I couldn’t fit the BodyBeast workout program into my time schedule so after much searching decided on the stronglifts 5×5 program. The thing I liked about this was its simplicity and ease of use coupled with the shorter workouts, this and an excellent iPhone app of the same name which kept it easy to track both weights and sessions made for a quick simple program that fitted with my allotted time and schedule but most importantly kept me on track with my goals.
2012 for me was all about dropping body fat and regaining my health and fitness. More on how I faired in this in an upcoming post when I wrap up the year.
2013 is going to be all about Strength & Power, a side effect of this will of course be size but that will be a happy addition rather than a defined goal. To achieve this I will be starting the year by following the Wendler 5/3/1 protocol. This focuses on the ‘Big 4’ compound moves of squat, bench press, deadlift, and overhead press. I intend to do this 3 mornings a week (Mon, Wed, Fri) and continue this for at least 6 months to see what I can achieve in this time. I don’t intend to set any kind of weight targets as to be perfectly honest I don’t care about the actual numbers so long as they are increasing and I’m getting stronger.
My only ‘cardio’ sessions will be in the form of short sprint sessions once or twice a week at least one of which will be the brutal Tabata sprints or 7.5 mins of hell as I like to think of it.
That’s it nice a simple no complex program’s or fancy moves/equipment just old fashioned lifting weights in tried and tested lifts.
Stay Healthy
